While living and working in the borderlands between southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico the only people that frightened me were the Border Patrol agents and the militia vigilantes. Both groups had zero experience or understanding of the areas they “patrolled” and both seemed jumpy to the point of being dangerous.
Attached is a recent short documentary about one of my former home towns, Arivaca, and the tragedy that occurred there – not because of immigrants but because of American citizens.
This story hits home in that one of the parties convicted of the tragedy, Albert Gaxiola, was a neighbor and friend.
